Troubleshooting

When something’s wrong, a warning appears at the top of the panel. Find it below.

“Recording blocked”

ozen doesn’t have permission to hear your meeting apps.

Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.
Turn on Ozen.
Press Start again.

If people in the room aren’t showing up, do the same under Microphone.

“Recording on hold: the screen is asleep or locked”

macOS pauses ozen’s listening while your screen sleeps or is locked. It picks up again when you wake your Mac.

“Microphone is silent”

The microphone your Mac is using isn’t picking up sound. Open System Settings › Sound › Input and choose another one.

If the warning says ozen is using one microphone because another is silent, ozen already switched to one that works. You only need to act if you prefer a different one.

“Transcriber stopped” or “catching up”

Stopped: the part of ozen that writes things down crashed. It restarts by itself and nothing you said is lost.
Catching up: it’s running behind, which is normal in your first meeting while speech models download. Lines arrive late, but they all arrive.

Nothing from the call shows up

Is the call in Zoom, Chrome, Teams, Slack, FaceTime or Discord? Calls in other apps, like Safari, aren’t written down.
In Meetings mode, ozen waits until the meeting app turns on your microphone. Press Start to record right away.

Wrong names

Name a couple of lines per person and answer Review. Each answer relabels the whole meeting. See Who is speaking.

A video, or my Mac reading aloud, shows up as a person

Click its name and choose Ignore this voice.

Permissions disappeared after an update

Update the way Updating describes, which keeps permissions. Copying the app by hand doesn’t.
